Event Summary

School absence remains at high levels across primary and secondary schools in Scotland, with almost one in three students persistently absent. Children with additional support needs, such as a disability or difficult family circumstances, are four times more likely to be severely absent from school than their peers.

Join Holyrood Insight’s annual School Attendance Conference to hear how to address persistent absence in your setting. We will explore how school inspection will address persistent absence.

Low attendance can impact negatively on attainment. We will share best practice strategies and successful methods for improving school attendance from across Scotland. We will spotlight the underlying causes of school absence and how to support children most at risk including children with additional support needs (ASN), students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, those who have experienced exclusion and young people from the Gypsy and Traveller communities.

Understand how to monitor and manage data to take targeted action that can help to trigger early intervention support to avoid persistent absence. We will explore how you can build a positive culture around attendance, working with parents, removing potential barriers to school attendance, and embedding evidence-based support approaches.

Don’t miss this opportunity to network and learn how to improve school attendance and attainment outcomes for children and young people across Scotland.
