His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education (HMIE) intends to launch a new draft school inspection framework in January 2027.
Following HMIE’s National Consultation on School Inspections, we will explore the key proposals shaping the future of inspection in Scotland. Gain insight into the new draft framework of HGIOS5 and hear early lessons on how to evidence strengths, identify areas for development, and maintain consistently high standards in teaching, learning, and assessment.
With implementation anticipated from January 2028, now is the time for schools to prepare.
Join Holyrood Insight’s timely School Inspections Scotland Conference in February 2027 to gain practical insights into the future of inspection, improve your approach to school improvement and self-evaluation, and strengthen year-round inspection readiness.
Hear the latest on potential changes to inspection frequency, grading and scope, the evolving role of the independent inspectorate, while examining the growing importance of pupil voice, inclusive engagement, and meaningful collaboration throughout the inspection process.
Learn how to design an outstanding curriculum that meets the needs of every learner while promoting equality, inclusion and wellbeing. We will discuss the vital role of pupil voice and parental engagement in driving school improvement and positive inspection outcomes. Leadership remains central to inspection readiness. We will showcase how schools can embed a culture of collaborative leadership and continuous improvement, ensuring senior leaders and staff work together with clarity and purpose.
Bringing together school leaders, local authorities, inspectors, and government representatives, we will explore the future of school inspections in Scotland, and the steps schools can take now to prepare successfully.
