Course Summary

Domestic Homicide and Suicide Reviews (DHSRs) were introduced under the Criminal Justice Modernisation and Abusive Domestic Behaviour Reviews (Scotland) Act 2025 and are a vital mechanism for identifying lessons to prevent future tragedies and improve multi-agency responses to domestic abuse-related homicides and suicides.

Our Managing a Domestic Homicide and Suicide Review (Scotland) online training course equips you with the knowledge and confidence to effectively contribute to a DHSR in accordance with statutory guidance.

Throughout the day, you will explore the purpose and principles of DHSRs, the legislative framework, and the key stages of the review process. Gain a clear understanding of the roles and responsibilities of those involved, how information is gathered and analysed. Recognise how lessons identified through case reviews are converted into recommendations and action plans, and use this learning to improve practice, service delivery, and outcomes.

This course also explores common risk factors, indicators of high-risk domestic abuse and suicide risk, and the importance of trauma-informed, victim-centred and collaborative multi-agency approaches. By the end of the day, you will understand how to effectively contribute to a DHSR with clarity and compassion, helping to honour lives lost, support organisational learning, and strengthen responses to domestic abuse across Scotland.
